Most of what makes Santa Croce famous is under your feet. Michelangelo, Galileo, Machiavelli, Rossini — slabs in the floor, easy to walk over without noticing. Above them, whitewashed walls and a dark timber roof, with the colour kept to the side chapels where the frescoes live.

Traveler Tips

Enter from the cloister side to skip the queue at the main facade. Scuola del Cuoio is also accessible from inside the Santa Croce monastery complex.
